One of my favorite 1950's LEGIT magazine articles

1950's Good Wife Guide

As much as it seems like we are living in a very sexist world, we certainly have come a long way.

I have know about this article for a few years now, and everytime I read it, it still baffels me.
Although we have come a long way, this article certainly shows what sexist ideology our culture has about women being the inferior beings.

  1. WOW! I'm pretty amazed at what that article says, but when I think about society and many families that I know today, the wives still follow much of what was mentioned in that article. I know that my mom does whatever she can to help my dad out, especially after a long day at work. I feel like it would be okay for a wife to make her husband happy like that, if he did the same in return. Some of those guidelines are quite crazy though such as "Minimize all noise".

  2. Oh wow, I guess I missed the last two when I skimmed over the article. Sooooo bad. I'm glad things are different now considering those, but then again, I do know some families that still follow the do not question him rule... it's quite sad in my opinion. :(

  3. This article is something I have come across before too. It reminds me of my family in a way because my grandparents were very set in gender roles which my grandmother transferred to my mom and my aunt. My mom deviated from "taking care of the man and staying at home" and she has worked since she was 12. She moved out when she was 17 but as well as having little odd jobs she had to clean the house, take care of her second youngest brother, he was a baby, make dinner, and whatever else daily. She only had time off in school and when her brother went to bed, if she was done her chores. Her brothers had no chores unless they offered to help, which barely occurred. Articles like this one allowed this to happen.
